As of this morning I weigh 259.5. That's all but 30 pounds in three weeks. Not that it's been easy. I threw up for the first time since surgery Friday night. We had roasted chicken, and I either didn't grind it up enough or it was too dry or I ate too much, but I was in agony for about a hour and a half before I gave up and prayed before the porcelain god.
I also am probably a bit more active than I should be three weeks out, but I kind of didn't have a choice. We developed a leak in the water pipe between our house and the meter, and it was going to cost us gobs of money if we didn't get it fixed. My friend Scott and I dug up the yard to find it for the plumber because if the plumber had to dig it up, it would have turned the $70 bill to about a $700 one. Granted Scott did about 80% of the work, still I was exhausted when we were done.
Today for Easter dinner it will be interesting. I'm going to try pureed turkey and mashed potatoes.

That's more like it! I'm down 5.5 pounds this week, and the pants are beginning to hang now. More, I think my stomach is getting stronger as I can eat some things that are a bit tougher to digest. Friday night I had a salad with turkey pepperoni, and man, was that tasty.
On the minus side, I think I may be getting another stricture in my throat. I'm getting that heart burn sensation when I eat again, and I'm also getting the gurgling up the back of my throat. I'll call the doctor tomorrow to check, but I'm hoping I can hold out until Friday if I have to go back in. I'm beginning to get embarrassed about how much school I've missed this year because of this surgery.
Irony, thy name be "fruit cake"
I am the only person I know of that actually likes fruitcake during the holidays.
Scratch that--I friggin' LOVE fruitcake. And I'm talking about the kind that comes in the rectangular, pre-fab boxes from Sunmaid or Hostess. There was a time when I could devour one of those in one sitting, and cruise through the rest of the night on a sugar high. Of course that was when I was weighing in at about 300 pounds. That was about 125 pounds ago, and I haven't had any in nearly three years. Naturally, this year there are shelves and shelves of the stuff at every grocery store I go to.
I've been tempted, I mean REALLY tempted, to cheat a little a pick one up. It honestly wouldn't be the first time I've snuck a a treat since dropping the equivalent weight of my daughter while she's holding our dog. I simply always check the carbs of the item first and then I try to be very careful with everything else I eat that day. I've been known to go as high as 23 carbs a serving on something I really like, so I figured I'd splurge for the holidays and go a bit further for the cake. I thought, "how bad can it be? 27...30 carbs a serving?"
Sheeyah...I wish.
The lowest I could find was 43 carbs per serving.
I got a bit nauceous just reading the box.
So here I am, the one guy in the world who would gleefully accept a much maligned fruitcake as a present without re-gifting, and I can't eat it.
Does anybody know of a recipe for low carb fruitcake, or is that a total oxymoron?
