The new vitamins

I started my new vitamins today. I don't really have to take these until after the surgery, but I figured I'd start getting in the routine. They're over-the-counter multivitamins, so it couldn't hurt to start now. The weird thing is that I have to take chewables from now on. The only chewable adult vitamins I could find were Centrums, which was a little annoying because up until now I've been taking One Source which are a bit cheaper. It's a little weird taking one-They taste just like the Flintstones vitamins I took as a kid.

Yow, still more tired than I thought

I walked Scoobert around the block so we could both enjoy the great weather and I could get some of the doctor-prescribed exercise in. But when I came back in about twenty minutes later, I sat down on the couch and crashed for about an hour. I guess I'm still pretty weak from the ordeal.

Flex your knees, Grasshopper!

I rented the David Carradine Tai Chi Workout for Beginners from Netflix to see if it was doable and I was pleasantly surprised. While I can't do all of the positions on the DVD right now (damn you, drain tube!), what I could do was relaxing and a bit energizing at the same time.

Most of all, my back felt great. I've never been the slightest bit interested in yoga because quite frankly I don't see a need for myself to be that flexible ("okay.... breathe ...deep... now...place the ball of your foot...against the small of your back..."), but Tai Chi seems to have the best aspects of Yoga without the ...pretzeliness.

Not only that, I think I'd look much cooler in a Tai Chi workout outfit than I would in a Yoga unitard . I'm going to hold on to the DVD for a while (the best part of Netflix) to see if this is something I'm going to stick with. If it is, then I'm going to go ahead and purchase it.

you put the load right on me (apologies to The Band)

Dolores got me some five pound ankle weights last night, so I'm wearing them to work today. I already have a pedometer that shows I walk three to five miles a day anyways, so I might as well make the most of it.

Irony, thy name be "fruit cake"

I am the only person I know of that actually likes fruitcake during the holidays.

Scratch that--I friggin' LOVE fruitcake.  And I'm talking about the kind that comes in the rectangular, pre-fab boxes from Sunmaid or Hostess. There was a time when I could devour one of those in one sitting, and cruise through the rest of the night on a sugar high.  Of course that was when I was weighing in at about 300 pounds.  That was about 125 pounds ago, and I haven't had any in nearly three years.  Naturally, this year there are shelves and shelves of the stuff at every grocery store I go to.

I've been tempted,  I mean REALLY tempted, to cheat a little a pick one up.  It honestly wouldn't be the first time I've snuck a a treat since dropping the equivalent weight of my daughter while she's holding our dog.  I simply always check the carbs of the item first and then I try to be very careful with everything else I eat that day.  I've been known to go as high as 23 carbs a serving on something I really like, so I figured I'd splurge for the holidays and go a bit further for the cake.  I thought, "how bad can it be?  27...30 carbs a serving?"

Sheeyah...I wish.

The lowest I could find was 43 carbs per serving.

I got a bit nauceous just reading the box.

So here I am, the one guy in the world who would gleefully accept a much maligned fruitcake as a present without re-gifting, and I can't eat it.

Does anybody know of a recipe for low carb fruitcake, or is that a total oxymoron?
